Responsibilities of an MSW internship supervisor

• Develop an educational contract: Create a contract with the intern that outlines their goals and expectations 
• Provide regular feedback: Meet with interns regularly to discuss their performance and provide guidance 
• Evaluate interns: Conduct formative and summative evaluations to assess the intern's progress 
• Communicate with the intern's academic director: Keep the intern's academic director informed of their progress 
• Model ethical practice: Discuss ethical practice and how to apply it in the field 
• Support the intern's learning: Provide encouragement and support to help the intern learn and grow 

DA:

The diagnostic assessment (DA) is necessary to determine a member’s eligibility for mental health services through Minnesota Health Care Programs (MHCP). The DA is a written report that documents the clinical and functional face-to-face evaluation of a person’s mental health. The report must include the:

• Nature, severity, and impact of behavioral difficulties
• Functional impairment
• Subjective distress
• Strengths and resources

The provider may perform the DA with or without medical services. Medical services include:

• Prescription of medications
• Reviewing and ordering laboratory services
• Other diagnostic studies

CMDE:

Comprehensive multi-disciplinary evaluation (CMDE): An EIDBI service that covers the required comprehensive evaluation of the person. The CMDE is an assessment that must be completed to determine eligibility and medical necessity for EIDBI services, and it must be updated at least once every three years.

CMDE Medical Necessity Summary Information, DHS-7108: The form the CMDE provider uses to document and summarize the results of the person’s evaluation. The provider must submit DHS-7108 to the state medical review agent or applicable health care plan for medical necessity approval before the person can receive EIDBI services.
